ILS contracts with community Caregivers to share their home and life with an individual who is eligible for services under Community Living BC. Our Home Share team supports and assists individuals and families to plan a home environment that addresses their unique needs and desires. Each Home Share setting is specifically tailored to the individual and may involve a shared living space within the home or a separate suite attached to the home where support is available as needed. The individual and their family have an integral role in selecting the right Caregiver for them and there is time for all parties to get to know each other before a decision is made.
We are committed to Home Sharing matches that are founded on respect, supportive and caring relationships, belonging and community connections. Caregiver experience, skills and interests are used to make matches and locate long term homes for people. Our Caregivers provide opportunities for individuals to make friends, develop meaningful relationships and participate in the community all while maintaining strong connections with their families. Where requested, daily assistance can be provided in the areas of relationship building, life skills, meal preparation, personal care and the use of community resources and generic services.
Successful Caregivers must complete a rigorous screening process that includes a home study, criminal records clearance, a good driving record, first aid certification and reference verification.

Adult Respite is a service that provides parents or primary family caregivers the opportunity for rest and renewal to maintain their resilience and relationships outside of their caregiving role. Our respite service provides opportunities for individuals to grow, make friends, participate in community, and make choices for themselves. Referrals to the Adult Respite Service are managed by Community Living British Columbia (CLBC) who also determine the amount of respite an individual and their family will receive each year.
Once a referral has been received, the ILS Respite team will collaborate with a family to match them with a contracted Respite Provider. Families are able to choose whether they would like their respite to be delivered hourly, overnight or a combination of both. Respite can be delivered in the community (hourly) or at either the family or Respite Provider’s home for overnight stays. The family participates in providing training, developing support strategies for medication administration, the use and maintenance of adaptive equipment and other special requirements to ensure that the continuity and quality of care for their family member is maintained. Once a match is located that meets with the approval of the individual and their family, you are encouraged to connect with the Provider(s) independently to arrange a respite schedule that works for you.
Successful Respite Providers must complete a rigorous screening process that includes a home study (if respite will be delivered in the Provider’s home), a good driving record, first aid certification, reference verification and criminal records clearance.
If you are interested in learning more about Adult Respite or becoming a Provider, please contact Carla Thiesen by phone 604-309-2123, e-mail cthiesen@inclusionlangley.com, one of our Adult Respite Co-ordinators or by completing the application below.
