Caring Dads Client Program Information

Caring Dads is a domestic violence intervention program. The program consists of 17 sessions which are listed below:

Sessions 1 – 3

Sessions one, two, and three are where we explore what a father is, how you were fathered, how you should have been fathered, and develop goals for your work with your children. We will be developing genograms (family trees). We will also discuss communication during these sessions.

Session 4 – 8

Some of the topics included throughout these sessions are the parenting continuum, which describes the difference between child-centered parenting and parent-centered parenting.  Child development, how well you know your children, and relationship building. Listening to children, praise, playing with children, and setting a good example. Listening to your child’s mother, appreciation for your child’s mother, and connections between thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Sessions 9 – 14

Some of the topics covered throughout these sessions are further exploration of the parenting continuum, what needs to change, individual sessions, and problem-solving steps (this captures a variety of topics already learned). How children have been impacted by parent centered parenting, parent-child boundaries, and involvement in the legal system. Also covered is relationship with the children’s mother, what children learn from fathers, and guilt versus shame.

Sessions 15 – 17

Topics covered throughout these sessions are rebuilding trust, discipline, and review of concepts.

Mother Contact Role

There is also a Mother Contact Worker who provides support to the mothers and children of the men.
