DESCRIPTION:The Caring Dads Intimate Partner Violence program is designed for fathers wanting to gain a deeper understanding of their relationship with their children and the mother of their children. The group consists of topics such as child development\, what it means to be a father\, positive discipline\, and many others. \nThe group will run Wednesday evenings from 6:00-8:00pm from August 28th\, 2024 to December 18th\, 2024. \nFor more information\, please contact Matthew Smiley at 604-440-9079 or msmiley@lcss.ca \nCaring Dad Flyer \nCaring Dads Self – Referral Form \nCaring Dads Referral Form \nCaring Dads Client Program Information  \nCaring Dads is a domestic violence intervention program. The program consists of 17 sessions which are listed below: \nSessions 1 – 3 \nSessions one\, two\, and three are where we explore what a father is\, how you were fathered\, how you should have been fathered\, and develop goals for your work with your children. We will be developing genograms (family trees). We will also discuss communication during these sessions. \nSession 4 – 8 \nSome of the topics included throughout these sessions are the parenting continuum\, which describes the difference between child-centered parenting and parent-centered parenting.  Child development\, how well you know your children\, and relationship building. Listening to children\, praise\, playing with children\, and setting a good example. Listening to your child’s mother\, appreciation for your child’s mother\, and connections between thoughts\, feelings\, and actions. \nSessions 9 – 14 \nSome of the topics covered throughout these sessions are further exploration of the parenting continuum\, what needs to change\, individual sessions\, and problem-solving steps (this captures a variety of topics already learned). How children have been impacted by parent centered parenting\, parent-child boundaries\, and involvement in the legal system. Also covered is relationship with the children’s mother\, what children learn from fathers\, and guilt versus shame. \nSessions 15 – 17 \nTopics covered throughout these sessions are rebuilding trust\, discipline\, and review of concepts. \nMother Contact Role \nThere is also a Mother Contact Worker who provides support to the mothers and children of the men.

DESCRIPTION:The Caring Dads Intimate Partner Violence program is designed for fathers wanting to gain a deeper understanding of their relationship with their children and the mother of their children. The program consists of 17 sessions which are listed below: \nSessions 1 – 3 \nSessions one\, two\, and three are where we explore what a father is\, how you were fathered\, how you should have been fathered\, and develop goals for your work with your children. We will be developing genograms (family trees). We will also discuss communication during these sessions. \nSession 4 – 8 \nSome of the topics included throughout these sessions are the parenting continuum\, which describes the difference between child-centered parenting and parent-centered parenting.  Child development\, how well you know your children\, and relationship building. Listening to children\, praise\, playing with children\, and setting a good example. Listening to your child’s mother\, appreciation for your child’s mother\, and connections between thoughts\, feelings\, and actions. \nSessions 9 – 14 \nSome of the topics covered throughout these sessions are further exploration of the parenting continuum\, what needs to change\, individual sessions\, and problem-solving steps (this captures a variety of topics already learned). How children have been impacted by parent centered parenting\, parent-child boundaries\, and involvement in the legal system. Also covered is relationship with the children’s mother\, what children learn from fathers\, and guilt versus shame. \nSessions 15 – 17 \nTopics covered throughout these sessions are rebuilding trust\, discipline\, and review of concepts. \nMother Contact Role \nThere is also a Mother Contact Worker who provides support to the mothers and children of the men.
